Every developing baby needs a nickname since you need to refer to it as something. And in our case, since we chose not to find out the sex, the need for a name other than “the baby” was needed. Early on our friend Anna presented this nickname and explanation to us and it just stuck. But why Half Calf?
Amazingly this question is almost NEVER asked of us. Granted we have heard some people mention they thought Half Calf was really “Half Caff”, as in related to coffee in some manner, but even if they thought that, does it actually make any sense? But seriously folks, were you not at least curious?
Well for those of you who have been afraid to ask, never fear, we will let you in on the backstory. We are Cory and Thao. If you smash Cory and Thao together you get Cao. And the baby of a Cao/Cow is a Calf. However Cory is Caucasian and Thao is Asian so the baby is also mixed race, or half of each. Therefore, it is a Half Calf. For all the effort and logic she put into the name, it seems rude not to keep using it. And as you can see from this website, we certainly did keep using it!
